“The only way to get a thing done is to start to do it, then keep on doing it, and finally you’ll finish it,….”

― Langston Hughes, The Big Sea

I read somewhere that Procrastination is like a credit card, it is so much fun using it until you see the bill coming.. I couldn’t agree less. It is easy to fall prey to procrastination, and once that becomes a habit, it is very difficult to break it. Procrastination is the act of postponing something followed by an unconscious habit of tuning the mind not to worry about it, until the tasks reach their deadlines and the time on hand is not enough to justify the completion. Here are few simple tips to avoid procrastination

  • Break tasks into smaller chunks that can be completed easily. Eg. Set tasks that can be completed in 15 minutes.
  • Minimize distractions. Eg. Keep your mobile on silent while working, switch off notifications from social media for the 15 minutes that you are focusing on a tasks
  • Have an accountability partner who will help, nudge and support you in completing your tasks.
  • Additional tip: Be someone’s accountability partner yourself 🙂
  • A notebook + Pen are great friends and so are some post-its. They can constantly remind you of your to-do. Try it.
  • Procrastination need not be just a bad habit. It can be a way you are managing your emotions! Yes get in touch with your emotion!

Give it a check

  • Check – Did you Start?
  • Check – Did you break the tasks?
  • Check – Are you trying ot perfect?
  • Check – Are you distracted?
  • Check – How are you feeling today?
